Rita. Russian and English as a Second Language. Literacy.

I greatly appreciate the time I spent during my tutoring sessions with Rita. She is both highly organized and intuitive. Rita helped fill in gaps where I found myself lacking, and challenged me to go further than I thought I could. Always an excellent mix of both reviewing material and introducing something new. Our sessions took place while I was also taking an academic Russian-language course, and the supplements she provided unquestionably rounded out what could not be addressed in classroom time alone. Patient and always quick to respond, I would not hesitate to recommend Rita to those looking for tutoring in this notoriously difficult language!

Rita is an excellent teacher. She started us off with all the basics, proceeding patiently with letters and pronunciation, working with me on the basics while also making me listen to her speak and try to formulate answers. She is prepared for each lesson with materials and an idea or goal of what she wants to teach and what I need to learn. I like that her approach is geared to speaking, reading, writing and grammar - they are all essential - while she, at the same time, puts an emphasis on listening and speaking. Rita is so well prepared and knows what she wants me to study and learn each time. She is making every effort to have me listen to her and understand her when she speaks and to answer her in Russian. It is a fun challenge and she is keeping my feet to the fire. Best of all, I believe I am learning a great deal from class to class and during our classes. I can best summarize it by stating that Rita is an excellent teacher and fun to work with! Rita is adding a lot of material, which requires self study and I am enjoying that a great deal. Every class she has not only new lessons prepared but also varied homework materials to read and, now, also to write. She is certainly "pushing me" (nicely) to learn at great speed. I enjoy that thoroughly. Great class. I feel I have learned a good deal in a short period of time. I credit Rita with a great deal of that progress. Such an excellent teacher! Demanding, conscientious, knows how to bring learning forwards. I never thought it would be so much fun to go "back to school".
